USPSA and Steel Challenge Guide

What is USPSA & SCSA?

USPSA is the United States region of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC). It's a competitive shooting sport built on three core principles: Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas — Accuracy, Power, Speed.

Competitors engage paper and steel targets on dynamic courses of fire called “stages.” Your score is based on hit factor — points divided by time — which means you need both speed and accuracy to win. It's the ultimate test of practical marksmanship.

USPSA matches range from local club-level events (like ours!) to Area, National, and World championships. No matter your skill level, there's always room to improve and compete.

Steel Challenge is a speed shooting sport where you engage steel plates against the clock. No movement, no reloading under pressure — just you, your gun, and five steel targets. Hit them as fast as you can.

Each stage has four runs plus a fifth "money run." Your worst run time is dropped, and the remaining four are totaled. Lowest time wins. It's simple, addictive, and one of the best ways to get into competitive shooting.

MGS hosts Steel Challenge matches at the Mohave Sportsman Club in Kingman, AZ. New shooters are always welcome — if you can safely handle a firearm, you can shoot Steel Challenge.
